Ashgabat discussed updating the climate document

Turkmenistan's climate commitments continue to be updated

A meeting on updating the country's main document on reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in the capital of Turkmenistan. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, as well as contact persons for the three UN global conventions. Among them were Batyr Ballyev (UNFCCC), Muhammet Durikov (UNCCD) and Jumamurad Saparmuradov (UNCCD).

The meeting was attended by specialists of international organizations and experts of environmental projects supported by UN programs - UNDP, UNICEF, UNIDO, as well as the German Society for International Cooperation.

The participants discussed climate change issues in the context of the upcoming 80th session of the UN General Assembly, where aspects of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan will be presented.

The work directions and features of the new list of voluntary mitigation and adaptation measures were presented. It is emphasized that these measures should be ambitious and feasible without hindering the growth of the economy and GDP of the country.

Turkmenistan's Fourth National Communication on Climate Change, which covers a multi-year period, is reported to be in the final stages of completion. In the future, States will only prepare biennial reports to provide the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change with up-to-date operational data.

The meeting also addressed the social aspects of climate change and proposals to improve the structure and content of nationally determined contributions.
