Turkmenistan presented a set of international initiatives at the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, considering it as an important stage of efforts to strengthen global peace and stability. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The country upholds the principle of security integrity, emphasizing the impossibility of achieving political and military security without ensuring the economic, energy, food and environmental components.
In accordance with United Nations General Assembly resolution 79/274, it is planned to establish a Neutrality Guide and a Chamber of Mediation for Peace under the auspices of the United Nations in Turkmenistan.
In December 2025, Ashgabat will host the International Forum of Peace and Confidence, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality. In the first half of 2026, it is planned to consider a draft resolution on "The role and significance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining international peace".
Among Turkmenistan's key proposals are the establishment of a permanent Program Office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office for Early Warning of Terrorism in the capital and the proclamation of a UN Decade on Sustainable Transport for 2026-2035.
The Foreign Ministry is also initiating the establishment of a Regional Center to Combat Desertification for Central Asian countries and the development of UN Regional Conventions on the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins.
As part of its environmental initiatives, Turkmenistan is promoting the Caspian Environmental Program and plans to hold the Second Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026.
The diplomatic office proposes to declare 2028 as the Year of International Law and to proclaim an International Mediation Day. In parallel, the country is campaigning for election to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for the period 2031-2032.
Turkmenistan is an active participant in the work of UN subsidiary bodies, including the Commission on Population and Development, UNICEF and UNCITRAL.
