A ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new complex for production of mineral fertilizers at the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant named after S.A. Niyazov was held in Lebap velayat on October 15. The event was attended by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, reports the news agency "Westiabad".
The head of state emphasized that the chemical industry remains one of the key sectors of the national economy. The country is implementing large-scale investment projects aimed at introducing modern technologies and expanding production capacity.
The new complex will be built by the South Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction with the participation of the State Concern "Türkmenhimiýa". The plant will be equipped with energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment. After commissioning, the plant will be able to produce 350 thousand tons of superphosphate and 100 thousand tons of ammonium sulfate annually, which will fully meet the domestic demand for phosphate fertilizers and reduce import dependence.
The President noted that the implementation of the project will create new jobs, and training of personnel for the enterprise will be organized in universities of Turkmenistan and abroad.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also announced plans to build a urea plant in Balkan velayat, the second phase of a gas chemical complex in Ahal and a fertilizer plant in Mary velayat. These projects, he said, are aimed at strengthening the country's industrial potential and improving its food security, while strictly complying with international environmental standards.
The President reminded that construction of large infrastructure facilities - a section of the Mary-Turkmenabat highway and a new complex of buildings of the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seidi - continues in the Lebap region.
At the end of the ceremony, the head of state congratulated the participants on the start of construction and wished them success in the realization of the project.
