The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) promotes the development of aquaculture and fisheries in Turkmenistan. This was reported by Trend news agency.
According to Viorel Gutsu, FAO sub-regional coordinator in Central Asia, the implementation of the program will contribute to food security in Turkmenistan, further accelerate the development of regions of the country, help to competently and effectively manage natural resources of the state.
FAO submitted three projects to the Turkmen leadership, including one on the development of fisheries in the country. Implementation of the project is designed to protect water resources by developing the industry.
In addition to introducing the Program, FAO held webinars to which Turkmen experts were invited. The topic of the webinars was the status and development of fisheries and aquaculture in Turkmenistan. In the format of familiarization with the Program there were seminars on the degree of adaptation of different fish species to climate change, as well as regular monitoring of fish health and detection of diseases.
