Carpet weavers of Turkmenistan finished year 2021 with dignity. Workers of Khalach Carpet Enterprise of "Türkmenhaly" State Association managed to weave carpets and carpet products worth 20.7 million manats by the end of last year. Thus, the planned indicators were fulfilled by 106%. If we speak of the annual volume of woven fabrics, it is equal to 10.407 thousand square meters. At the moment, over 2,300 carpet weavers work at Turkmenistan's largest carpet enterprise.
Today, large-scale opportunities for the further development of such ancient Turkmen art as carpet weaving are being formed in Turkmenistan. During its 14th meeting on December 12, 2019, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage decided to inscribe the "National Art of Carpet Weaving of Turkmenistan" on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This eloquently demonstrates the reverence with which the global community treats the heritage of Turkmen culture.
Modern skill of carpet weaving has become one of the evidences of uniqueness of the Turkmen people, their culture and traditions. It combines not only historical and spiritual heritage of Turkmens but also gets new impetus for development, new colors and directions in modern conditions. Today, in the Turkmen carpet weavers' works traditional images that date back to the depth of centuries coexist with new ones reflecting the great deeds of the people of Turkmenistan.
The rug weavers are not only engaged in the production of traditional rugs. They can weave giant carpets and oval, round or trapezoidal shapes that fit perfectly into the architectural features of any room. The enterprise also pays much attention to national traditions: its masters make women's handbags, curtains for doors, khorujiny, gift versions of carpets and many other things.
