Members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and representatives of relevant ministries of the country together with consultants of the Asian Development and Cooperation Bank of the WTO considered the issues of development of the Memorandum on foreign trade of Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO is part of the Foreign Trade Strategy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2030 and the National Program of Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022-2052.
In 2020, the country was granted observer status in the WTO, and in 2022 - active observer status. In 2023, the composition of the Working Commission for the development of the Memorandum on Foreign Trade of Turkmenistan was approved. WTO accession activities are carried out in the country, including national seminars, WTO accession sessions, distance lectures, courses and conferences. For example, the International Trade Center in Ashgabat held an online training on "Legal Aspects of the WTO and the Accession Process".
