The National Leader of the Turkmen People participated in the "United Water" Summit

On December 3, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the "One Water" summit held within the framework of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP-16), TDH reports.

Following the original traditions and customs of our people, Haji Arkadag started his visit with a pilgrimage to the holy Kaaba, visiting the city of Mecca. This was a vivid expression of the continuity of principles of the Turkmen people in the successful fulfillment of noble deeds.

Haji Arkadag, having performed 2 rakaats of namaz here, prayed for the dispensation of prosperous life to our people, for the further development of the Motherland, increase of its authority, for the achievement of high borders of progress and prosperity in the new historical epoch of our independent country under the wise leadership of Arkadagli Hero Serdar.

Then, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the venue of the summit.

Hero Arkadag was met by the Crown Prince, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdelaziz Al Saud, President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and World Bank Governor Ajay Banga.

The agenda of the summit, which brought together heads of state and government, heads and representatives of international organizations, addressed the issues of expanding cooperation in this important area and the search for new solutions.

Opening the Summit, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warmly welcomed the participants and expressed confidence that this meeting will contribute to the work of the United Nations to improve global water management.

The floor was then given to the summit participants.

In his speech, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov first of all expressed gratitude to the Governments of France, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia for convening this forum, which is designed to practically promote the solution of the most pressing issues on the global agenda.

Emphasizing that the UN Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia will soon start functioning in Ashgabat, Hero-Arkadag assured that the Government of Turkmenistan will provide maximum assistance to this new structure and ensure the most favorable conditions for its effective implementation of its tasks and goals.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, expressed at the Summit the opinion that the whole complex of water problems in Central Asia should be considered on the basis of three important principles: observance of international law; mutual consideration of interests; and involvement of international organizations, first of all, the United Nations. Our country's views on this important issue were widely supported by the UN Under-Secretary-General and forum participants.

UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe Tatyana Molchan praised Turkmenistan's water diplomacy and noted that Turkmenistan's international initiatives on rational use of water resources for the benefit of the peoples of the world are exemplary.

Thus, Hero-Arkadag's participation in the "One Water" summit once again clearly demonstrated Turkmenistan's aspiration to contribute to the efforts of the world community to resolve issues on the global agenda and its proactive position in this endeavor.
