Talks between the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia

Talks between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim were held on December 19, TDH reports.

During the meeting, the head of the Government of the friendly country expressed gratitude to the head of Turkmenistan for the accepted invitation to pay an official visit to Malaysia.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on behalf of the delegation of Turkmenistan, first of all thanked for the hospitality and conveyed to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim the words of greetings from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Taking this opportunity, the Head of State expressed words of greetings and deep respect to the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, on behalf of Hero-Arkadag and on his own behalf.

Expressing confidence that this visit is aimed at further strengthening of bilateral relations, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Malaysia are aimed at steadily enhancing partnership in political and diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Reaffirming Turkmenistan's readiness to work together with Malaysia to expand interstate relations, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the warm welcome.

During the meeting, expressing their support for further strengthening of constructive political dialogue, enhancing trade and economic ties, the interlocutors also emphasized the importance of stimulating humanitarian and cultural contacts, which are an integral component of bilateral cooperation and contribute to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Malaysia.

The sides also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

The talks continued in an extended format with the participation of members of the government delegations of Turkmenistan and Malaysia.

Warmly welcoming the distinguished guest and the delegation of Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia pays great attention to cooperation with our country. Taking this opportunity, the head of the Malaysian Government on his own behalf and on behalf of the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim expressed words of greetings and best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting the great significance of the results of the official visit of the Hero-Arkadag to Malaysia in 2016.

In this regard, the importance of the current visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was emphasized in the context of further strengthening of interstate partnership.

Focusing on the issues of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed on behalf of Malaysia to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sincere gratitude for the favorable conditions created in Turkmenistan for the effective operation of the State Oil and Gas Company "Petronas".

 

Then, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked on behalf of the delegation for the invitation to visit Malaysia and for the hospitality and noted that Turkmen-Malaysian relations have been going on for more than 30 years. Over the past time, a solid practice of bilateral interaction has been accumulated and its legal framework has been formed.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the current dynamics of the close dialog and this visit will give an additional impetus to the bilateral partnership and will allow bringing it to a qualitatively new level.

In this regard, the head of Turkmenistan proposed to define the directions for consistent enhancement of bilateral relations.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the expediency of establishing regular political consultations in order to intensify cooperation between the foreign ministries.

The key segment of Turkmen-Malaysian relations is trade and economic partnership. In this regard, it was proposed to consider in detail the issues of interaction in such sectors as agriculture, textile industry, energy and transportation.

The business communities of both countries have a special role to play in this endeavor. In 2015, we organized the Joint Turkmen-Malaysian Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, suggesting to hold the next forum in Ashgabat.

The head of state also emphasized the importance of establishing direct business contacts between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and Malaysia, which should ensure the participation of enterprises and companies in exhibitions, fairs and forums held in our countries.

At the same time, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to establish a Joint Turkmen-Malaysian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation to enhance trade and economic partnership.

At the same time, the head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of humanitarian ties and supports the holding of Days of Culture, as well as international festivals and exhibitions with the participation of representatives of culture and art, creative figures of the two countries.

Noting that the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan were held in Malaysia in 2015, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to hold the Days of Culture of Malaysia in Ashgabat next year.

Speaking about the growing interest of Turkmen citizens to study in higher educational institutions of Malaysia, where about 300 students from our country are currently studying, the head of state emphasized that the resumption of flights between Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur will create additional opportunities for strengthening ties between our peoples.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that the decision to hold the World Water Congress and Exhibition in Sarawak in 2028 once again confirms the relevance of Malaysia's initiatives in the international arena. In this regard, the Head of State stated that Turkmenistan would directly participate in the work of the high-level forum and, taking this opportunity, wished great success in preparing and holding the World Water Congress and Exhibition.

Once again thanking Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for fruitful negotiations and readiness to develop relations of friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed wishes of peace and wellbeing to the people of Malaysia.

Expressing gratitude to the head of Turkmenistan for his informative speech and constructive proposals, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim noted that interaction in political and diplomatic, economic, agricultural and cultural spheres occupies an important place in the interstate dialog.

Noting that President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pays active attention to the development of friendly relations with Malaysia, the head of the Malaysian government expressed confidence in further successful continuation of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Malaysia attaches great importance to the development of partnership with Turkmenistan in the trade sphere. In this context, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated the readiness to strengthen cooperation in food trade and exchange of experience in this area.

Noting that Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the oil and gas company "Petronas", the head of the Government of the friendly country expressed gratitude on behalf of this company for the assistance provided in this direction.

Noting that bilateral cooperation in the education sector continues to expand, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that productive ties in the field of training specialists will be further developed.

As noted, thanks to the establishment of direct flights between the two states, there has been significant progress in cooperation in the field of tourism, as evidenced by the increase in the number of tourists. In this regard, it was stated that they are ready to introduce various benefits for tourists and continue targeted interaction, which in turn will contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations between the citizens of both countries.

Noting that President Serdar Berdimuhamedov identified energy, transportation and technology as promising areas of partnership, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated Malaysia's readiness to implement projects in these areas. At the same time, support was expressed for Turkmenistan's initiative to establish the "Central Asia + ASEAN" format and readiness to cooperate within its framework.

At the end of the extended talks, a signing ceremony of the bilateral document was held.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim signed the Joint Statement between Turkmenistan and Malaysia on the results of the official visit.
