The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan held telephone talks, during which Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation. The heads of state also congratulated each other and the Turkmen and Afghan nations on the occasion of Oruz Bayram, wishing the friendly peoples a prosperous and peaceful life.
The Turkmen and Afghan leaders emphasized the effectiveness of cooperation in economic, trade, energy, fuel, transport and communications sectors. Joint large-scale projects such as TAPI, FOCL and TAP power transmission line are being implemented in these areas. One of the key topics of discussion was the Lapis Lazuli transport and transit corridor - the heads of states expressed their conviction that the successful implementation of this project will be a significant investment in strengthening the trade and economic partnership between the regions.
The Turkmen leader emphasized that the implementation by the two countries of transport and energy projects aimed at achieving the SDGs in the region and the world will bring the states closer together, build a bridge of friendship for the nations, open up a wide field of opportunities for the future development of national economies and contribute to the welfare of the people of Afghanistan.
On behalf of the Afghan people, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani expressed his deepest gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the solidarity, humanitarian and economic assistance, and proactive support for the peaceful and stable development of Afghanistan. The Afghan leader said that friendship with the Turkmen partners is valued in Afghanistan. He highly appreciated the peace-loving policy of a neutral country, aimed at strengthening a secure, peaceful and stable life in the region.
The heads of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan expressed confidence that the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation will continue to develop in all directions.
