Since January 1, 2023, the law "On Notaries and Notarial Activities" has been in force in Turkmenistan. In accordance with the additions and amendments to the Turkmen legislation, Turkmenistan will have a new profession - a private notary. This is reported by the information portal "Business Turkmenistan".
The law, which came into force, was signed by Serdar Berdymukhamedov on November 20, 2022. It regulates the activities of private notary offices and provides the opportunity to open the Association of Notaries. The purpose of the existence of this institution will be to protect the interests of its members and the development of private notary practice in the country.
According to the new law, a citizen of Turkmenistan with a law degree and at least 2 years of continuous legal practice can become a notary. Also, in order to be able to practice as a private notary, one must take a special 6-month course and obtain certification.
