С. Lavrov: "Russia and Kazakhstan will support Turkmenistan in organizing the Caspian Summit"

Yesterday, April 22, at a press conference on the results of the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Kazakhstan in Moscow, Sergei Lavrov said that Russia and Kazakhstan "will provide comprehensive support" in the organization of the Caspian Summit, which this year will be held in Turkmenistan. We agreed to intensify preparations for the VI Caspian Summit. It should be held in Turkmenistan, and we, together with our Kazakh friends, will provide the hosts - Turkmenistan - with the most active and full assistance to ensure that the summit is successful and ends with the adoption of significant agreements," Minister Lavrov said.

This year, Turkmenistan will host the heads of the Caspian countries for the second time. The first reception within the framework of this summit in the capital of Turkmenistan took place in April 2002.

At the previous meeting, held in Aktau, Kazakhstan, in August 2018, the heads of the Caspian states signed the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, in which the parties agreed that the main surface area of the Caspian basin remains in common use of all Caspian countries, while the subsoil and the bottom of the basin are divided between the bordering countries by agreement within the framework of international law.
