Turkmenistan hosted a teleconference meeting of the Interagency Working Group on the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM). The meeting was organized by the Interstate Organization for Migration Affairs (IOM), the UN Agency for Migration in the World, in cooperation with the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and the State Migration Service of the country.
In accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution 73/326, the first Interstate Migration Forum will be held from May 10 to 13 of this year. Leaders from all over the world will take part in the high-level event. The Forum will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York. Its purpose is to discuss the implementation of the commitments undertaken by states under the Global Agreement on Regulated, Safe and Legal Migration.
During the meeting of the Interagency Working Group on the GMD, participants discussed the basic steps for preparing for the above-mentioned forum, the format in which reporting will be done, the national preparatory plan for the forum and the required support from IOM and other UN agencies in this regard.
At the meeting, the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, which coordinates the Working Group, emphasized the willingness of all members of the group to participate in the preparatory process for the forum.
