Valentin Trapeznikov, economic observer on Turkmenistan, spoke about the high dynamics of development of the transportation sector in the country. The expert emphasized that the transport complex, including railway, road, air and water infrastructure, has become an actively developing sector of Turkmenistan's economy in 2023. In the first 11 months of the past year, the growth rate of work and services reached 121.3%, freight transportation 103.9%, and passenger transportation 105.1%.
In terms of sectors of the transport complex, the growth indicators amounted to 106.5% for railway transport, 117% for road transport, 199% for air transport, and 105.2% for water transport. As a link of the Great Silk Road, Turkmenistan is an important transportation hub in the Central Asian region. In 2023, transit cargo transportation through the country increased by 20.4%.
The volume of works and services provided by road transport is also increasing. For 2023, road transportation accounted for 49.4% of freight transportation and 84.7% of passenger transportation of the total volume.
