Turkmenistan and ADB celebrated 25 years of cooperation

A round table dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the Asian Development Bank was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

A round table dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held today at the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of ministries and agencies, representatives of banking structures, as well as an ADB delegation headed by Vice President Yang Yingming.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Khodjamyrat Geldimiradov emphasized the constructive nature of the quarter-century-long cooperation and its significant contribution to the development of the national economy. He outlined the priority areas of cooperation: energy, transportation, urban development and strengthening the private sector.

ADB Vice President Yang Yingming noted that the partnership is built on the basis of mutual trust and respect. He emphasized the importance of meeting with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for further development of relations.

The participants discussed new projects in Arcadag Smart City, including the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Construction Committee of Arcadag City and ADB signed in May this year.

Particular attention was paid to the prospects for partnership in financing infrastructure projects, private sector support, human capital development and sustainable development. The parties considered the issues of diversification of the energy sector, modernization of railway transport and development of small and medium-sized businesses.

Bilateral cooperation is carried out within the framework of the Partnership Strategy with Turkmenistan for 2024-2028.

As a result of the roundtable, the Central Bank of Turkmenistan and ADB signed a Protocol of Agreement on lending for the construction project of a medical vocational school in Ashgabat.
