Turkmenistan and UNESCO expand cooperation

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and UNESCO Deputy Director General Xing Qiu held talks on September 5. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The sides discussed the current cooperation in education, science, ecology and environmental protection, as well as the upcoming partnership agenda. In the course of the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon the plans of events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's accession to UNESCO and the 300th anniversary of the birth of Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Fraghi.

The special significance of the previously signed Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNESCO for 2021-2023 and the 2015 Framework Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNESCO on the establishment of a trust fund was emphasized.

The parties noted that within the framework of international cultural and humanitarian partnership the development of scientific and educational cooperation and popularization of national cultural heritage are of particular importance.
