Turkmenistan expands its transit potential

Within the framework of the North-South Trade and Logistics Forum held in Kazakhstan in Aktau, the heads of Turkmenistan's transport agencies met with their counterparts from Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. The trilateral meeting focused on topical issues of cooperation in the transport sector. It is reported Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. 

During the meeting, which was held on July 19, the parties discussed the conditions of cargo transportation along the route "Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Afghanistan" with subsequent access to Pakistan. It was noted that this corridor is an important part of the North-South route. At the initial stage it is planned that transportation along the transport corridor will be 5-8 million tons, in the future these volumes will have to grow to 20-30 million tons.

The topic of joint construction of a railroad from the Turkmen-Afghan border to Herat was also touched upon.
