During the 28th session of the COP28 climate forum, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced the country's accession to the Global Methane Commitment. This was reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Support for this initiative and Turkmenistan's interest in its implementation were expressed as early as the 26th session of the Climate Summit. In this regard, in 2022, with the support of UNDP and taking into account the recommendations of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Nationally Determined Contribution of Turkmenistan to the Paris Climate Agreement was developed and approved, which provides for a reduction of methane emissions into the atmosphere by 20% in 2030 compared to 2010.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov officially announced Turkmenistan's accession to the Global Methane Commitment and noted that the country continues to cooperate with various world organizations and partners for its practical implementation.
