Turkmenistan is preparing for the XV Summit of Heads of ECO Member States

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov told President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov during a regular government meeting about Turkmenistan's preparations for the 15th summit of heads of member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The meeting, scheduled for November 28, 2021, is expected to be held in a hybrid format.

At this time, Turkmenistan has taken over the chairmanship of the ECO, as a result of which the development of the relevant Concept has been carried out. During the activities aimed at its implementation, a number of meetings were held at the level of ministries. Also in June it is planned to hold the 4th meeting of heads of the Ministry of Energy, as well as the 5th meeting of heads of national statistical authorities.

Preparation for the forthcoming 15th ECO Summit was also discussed during the meeting with Hadi Suleimanpur, the Secretary General of the organization, which took place online on June 16 this year. The participants of the talks discussed important issues related to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the implementation of the tasks set before the Union and agreeing on the outlined plan until 2025 with other ECO member states.

Concluding the conversation, the sides reaffirmed their full readiness for mutual cooperation and working out methods to further expand mutually beneficial partnership. The Turkmen Foreign Minister said Turkmenistan sees the potential in strengthening cooperation in such areas as trade and economic, energy, transport, cultural and other areas as a strategic goal. To implement it, there are plans to form a commission within the Organization, which will include heads of ministries and sectoral agencies of Turkmenistan.

Following the report, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the consolidating role of the ECO, which ensures the economic partnership of the countries that share a common history, geography, culture, traditions and spiritual values. The President noted that Turkmenistan has extensive experience of cooperation with the Organization, which creates a solid foundation for effective joint efforts for future development. According to the head of state, during its presidency in ECO, Turkmenistan intends to fully contribute to the implementation of the existing great potential of partnership relations to ensure the well-being of all member states of the organization. The President instructed to ensure a high level of preparation for the forthcoming 15th ECO Summit and other planned events.
