Turkmenistan together with Caspian littoral countries to celebrate Caspian Day on August 12

Countries bordering the Caspian Sea are preparing to celebrate Caspian Day on August 12, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation around this inland body of water. This is reported by the publication Turkmenportal.

This year major celebrations are planned in Turkmenistan and Russia. Caspian Day has been celebrated annually since 2007 by the five states bordering the Caspian Sea - Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan.

The holiday is celebrated against the backdrop of the signing of landmark diplomatic agreements that strengthen ties between the Caspian littoral states. In 2018, all five countries ratified the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea. This agreement paved the way for the implementation of joint projects such as the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.

The Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline will transport natural gas from Turkmenistan under the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, where it will connect to pipelines to Europe. The project has attracted considerable interest from the EU, which is seeking to diversify its energy supplies.

The Southern Gas Corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan to Europe, was recently completed. Azerbaijan has also announced plans to complete the construction of a gas interconnector from Turkey to Nakhichevan by 2024.

With the growing demand for natural gas in Europe, the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline is seen as the next step in the realization of vital energy supply routes. Turkmenistan has expressed its readiness to cooperate with all interested parties in the realization of this project.

Celebrating Caspian Day, the leaders of the Caspian littoral states hope to further strengthen regional ties and cooperation around the sea's vast oil and gas resources.
