Turkmen scientist told about protection of plants from the Red Book

Pirli Kepbanov, one of the authors of the 4th edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan, director of the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of Turkmenistan, candidate of biological sciences, spoke about methods of protection and conservation of plants listed in the Red Book. Kepbanov said that the new edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan includes 20 plant species that were not previously endangered. At the same time, 18 plants that have recovered their populations were excluded from the Red Book.

The main methods of conservation of endangered plants are creation of protected areas, monitoring of plant status and public education. The scientist noted that climate change, land degradation, irrational use of water resources, expansion of agricultural areas are the main threats to the flora of Turkmenistan.
