The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was the venue for a celebratory event marking the beginning of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the United Nations at the initiative of our state.
Foreign diplomats and delegates from international institutions took part in the celebration. Among the guests of honor were the Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, UNICEF Representative K. Weygand, Head of the UNRCCA and the OSCE Center in Ashgabat N. Drozd.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, Christina Weygand stressed the particular importance of proclaiming 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Confidence for the peaceful and stable development of states. Support for the initiatives to strengthen the cohesion of countries was expressed by Ms. Natalia German. Representatives of the UN, UNESCO, ECO, and CIS addressed the event via video link.
Head of the Foreign Ministry R. Meredov noted that the event was part of an ambitious process aimed at promoting cooperation and understanding between the countries. The diplomat also noted the growing support of the international community for the principles of neutrality.
R.Meredov singled out key tasks in this direction, among them: ensuring the rule of law for stability in the world, strengthening the UN position, countering terrorism, conducting preventive diplomacy, and combating COVID-19.
