In the past year 2024, the sports sector of Turkmenistan has shown great achievements - both at the regional and global level. This is reported by the Internet publication CentralAsia.news.
During the year, the Turkmen capital repeatedly hosted national and international championships and tournaments in various sports. These included the Ashgabat Open 2024 tennis tournament and the international hockey tournament. Representatives of international sports organizations have paid official visits to the country.
The UNGA adopted a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan on the UN Friendship Games. Turkmen athletes won 616 medals from January to November this year, taking part in 174 competitions. Chess players and fencers, kurash wrestlers, figure skaters and weightlifters, karate and freestyle wrestlers, sambo wrestlers and judo masters performed successfully in 2024.
