Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Japan to Meet in Tokyo

A meeting of foreign ministers in the Central Asia-Japan format will be held in Tokyo on December 24. This meeting is the 9th in this format and will be held at the Iikura Reception House, chaired by Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa.

According to a Japanese Foreign Ministry press release, diplomats from Japan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will discuss regional cooperation, the situation in Afghanistan and issues on the international agenda.

Japan has been preparing for this meeting for a long time, and hopes that it will provide an opportunity to identify specific areas of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Bilateral talks will also take place as part of the meeting of foreign ministers.

The last meeting of foreign ministers in the Central Asia-Japan format was held in Tajikistan in May 2019.

The Central Asia-Japan format dialogue was established in 2004 at the initiative of Japan in order to further develop regional cooperation.
