Within the framework of the 79th session of ESCAP, which was held from 15 to 19 May this year in Bangkok, the issues of implementation of the program developed by Turkmenistan for the Aral Sea basin were considered. This is reported by centralasia.news.
ESCAP on May 19 of the current year after long and painstaking work adopted the resolution of Turkmenistan "Consideration of conditions for establishing a special UN program for the Aral Sea basin".
The UN Special Program is developed to involve the world community in the fight against the Aral Sea crisis in the context of climate change. The project of the UN Special Program was presented back in 2019 at the UNESCAP headquarters. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov first proposed to develop the program at the Rio+20 summit in 2012, stressing that the measures taken to save the Aral Sea are insufficient.
