Seismic zoning maps are currently being developed for the cities of Arkadag and Balkanabat by specialists of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
In the future, seismic zoning maps will be approved and will be used as regulatory documents to be relied upon by engineers to develop construction plans for new buildings and structures.
Within the framework of the national program "Reduction of seismic risk in earthquake-prone zones of Turkmenistan", an expert council on seismic safety assessment and earthquake forecasting has been established.
The maps developed are needed for earthquake engineering, earthquake resilience assessment, rational land use, and long-term socio-economic planning.
