The OSCE and Central Asian countries discussed strengthening regional security at the Turkmen Foreign Ministry building

On October 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an extended meeting of OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid and heads of foreign ministries of Central Asian countries. This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting discussed topical issues of regional security, sustainable development and stability. Special attention was paid to the problems of border security, climate change, environmental protection and the development of transportation infrastructure in the region.

The participants emphasized the importance of uniting the efforts of Central Asian countries and interested international structures to jointly address the existing challenges. The constructive role of the OSCE projects being implemented in the region was emphasized.

A number of States made specific proposals to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of environment, climate change and development of transport corridors. In particular, Turkmenistan introduced an initiative to create a Central Asian transport and logistics platform.

At the end of the meeting, the participants confirmed their readiness to continue constructive dialog and develop joint measures to ensure security and stability in the Central Asian region.
