On July 7, 2020, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a consultation with the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. The meeting, which dealt, among other things, with the prospects for interstate partnership, took place via videoconference.
A constructive dialogue was established between the parties, during which views were exchanged on a number of foreign policy issues. Thus, the parties discussed priority directions of development of interstate relations, and also noted the importance of interaction within the authoritative international communities. Participants in the dialogue also emphasized the need to strengthen ties between the parliaments of the two countries. The Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Bahrain also touched on practical implementation of the agreements previously reached at the highest level.
The diplomats stressed the mutual interest of Ashgabat and Manama to further develop political and diplomatic cooperation, as well as to strengthen cooperation in cultural and humanitarian and trade and economic areas.
The heads of foreign ministries also did not neglect the situation with the global pandemic coronavirus, discussing methods to prevent and combat the threat. The sides noted the relevance of establishing the Council of Medical Scientists, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, and the use of effective measures of scientific diplomacy proposed by the leader of the Turkmen nation.
According to the dialogue participants, joint business forums play an important role in developing cooperation in the energy and gas-chemical industries. They also discussed the possibility of organizing videoconferences with representatives of various business structures of Turkmenistan and Bahrain, both private and state-owned.
