A unique art competition was held in the Uzbek city of Urgench to mark the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fraghi, whose anniversary UNESCO declared the main cultural event of the year. The unusual competition was held in the workshop of the famous Uzbek artist Soliy Kodirov, where the participants were invited to create a portrait of the poet from memory.
The format of the competition impressed with its originality: the contestants were shown Makhtumkuli's portrait for only five minutes, after which they had to reproduce it from memory. Students and teachers of the Urgench sculpture institution took part in the creative competition.
The best in this difficult test was Ataeva Asaloy, the second place was won by Kalandarov Hasanboy, and the third place was won by Jumaboyeva Nafisa. The organizers did not forget about the other participants and gave them incentive prizes.
The participation of Soliy Kodirov himself, a recognized master and member of the Creative Association of Artists of Uzbekistan, gave the contest a special significance. A native of Urgench, he is known for his works in painting, graphics and sculpture, which are in private collections in Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
The works of the master decorate the funds of the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Urgench Museum of Modern Art and the Bekhzod Museum of Oriental Miniature Art. The artist maintains close creative ties with Turkmenistan, regularly participating in various cultural projects of this country.
After the competition, Soliy Kodirov held a creative meeting with the participants, where he shared his impressions of the works and answered the questions of aspiring artists.
