President Serdar Berdimuhamedov yesterday received Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit.
The Russian Foreign Minister conveyed greetings and wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing Moscow's commitment to friendly dialogue with Ashgabat. Lavrov expressed gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov for his participation in the celebrations in Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that the Russian Federation is a strategic partner of the country. The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral partnership, including political dialog, inter-parliamentary cooperation and consultations between the foreign ministries.
Special attention was paid to constructive interaction within the framework of international organizations such as the UN and the CIS. The President of Turkmenistan thanked Russia for supporting the neutral status of the republic.
During the meeting the Forum of the International Year of Peace and Confidence was announced, which will be held on December 12 in Ashgabat in honor of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.
The sides also discussed the potential of trade and economic cooperation and the role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. The sides noted the participation of the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the XVI International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2025" in Kazan in May.
The prospects for cooperation in the spheres of transportation, logistics, education, science, culture and health care have been highlighted.
Within the framework of the visit, Lavrov visited "Halk hakydasy" Memorial Complex and took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at "Baky şöhrat" monument.
