A landmark resolution proclaiming Central Asian states a territory of peace, cooperation and mutual trust was adopted at Thursday's session of the UN General Assembly. This resolution was initiated by Turkmenistan.
UN Permanent Representative to Turkmenistan A. Ataeva presented the text at the 97th meeting of the GA, emphasizing the need for a clear definition of norms and principles, compliance with which will be a guarantee of security, peace, and sustainable development in the Central Asian region.
Ataeva noted the high potential for further humanitarian, trade and economic cooperation among Central Asian countries. She mentioned the presence of common cultural and historical values and spiritual heritage. Ataeva also emphasized that the presence of complementary transport channels and areas of foreign economic activity will contribute to the strengthening of constructive partnership.
