President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Asian Development Bank Vice President for South, Central and West Asia Yang Yingming in Ashgabat on June 23 to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The parties noted 25 years of constructive interaction between Turkmenistan and ADB. During this period, the Bank has participated in financing numerous projects in key segments of the national economy - energy, transportation and health care.
The partnership is being developed within the framework of the Strategy of Cooperation with Turkmenistan for 2024-2028. Special attention is paid to economic, trade, transport and energy development projects under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program.
In May this year, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Committee for Construction of Arkadag City under the President of Turkmenistan and ADB, which opens new opportunities for cooperation.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan's intention to diversify the energy sector using the country's enormous natural resources. The sides also discussed the modernization of the railway sector and the need to continue the dialogue with ADB on transport issues.
Special attention was paid to activation of financial and credit and consulting services for the development of small and medium-sized businesses. The parties noted the importance of ADB's cooperation with domestic banks to fully realize the potential of the private sector.
The ADB representative emphasized that the bank pays special attention to cooperation with Turkmenistan, which demonstrates stable dynamics of economic growth.
