In a telephone conversation, the presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan expressed a mutual intention to expand interstate cooperation. In particular, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan aims for the broadest possible partnership with Kazakhstan. The Turkmen leader also sent birthday greetings to his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The heads of state confidently stated that the development of the Turkmen-Kazakh strategic partnership by joint efforts will continue.
Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have been developing a strategic partnership for many years. There are regular discussions between Ashgabat and Nur-Sultan on mutual cooperation in the gas sector, as well as in the development of minerals, the deposits of which are located on the border between the two countries.
Kazakhstan is a direct participant in a large-scale project to transport gas from fields in the Central Asian region to China. Turkmen fuel has been supplied to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) since 2009. The gas pipeline runs through the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Turkmen-Kazakh cooperation in the transport and logistics sector is also developing. The two countries are jointly implementing a road construction project, the successful implementation of which will ensure the growth of bilateral trade turnover and increase the volume of freight and passenger traffic. At the moment, the Turkmen side is building on its territory the road to the border with Kazakhstan. Also, a bridge across the Kara-Bogaz-Gol bay will be built.
