Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to create a border trade zone

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat held a meeting with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin. The parties noted the positive dynamics of increasing trade turnover between the two countries and expressed the desire for further expansion of cooperation in trade and economy.

Despite the global pandemic of COVID-19, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan maintain a steadily increasing pace of trade, which in the first 7 months of 2020 increased by 10% to $100 million.

A special emphasis during the talks was placed on the cross-border partnership between the Balkan Velayat and the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan. In this perspective, the introduction of a special border trade zone is considered. The parties stated that the creation of the special zone will favor the industry of the two countries to a new round of technological development.

Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Askar Mamin discussed cooperation not only in the trade and economic segment, but also in investment, energy and fuel, transport and transit, and the agricultural sector. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan also discussed the vectors of development of cooperation between the two countries with the deputy prime ministers of Turkmenistan.
