The meeting of the Joint Committee on the development of partnership between Turkmenistan and the UAE was held in the online format. The experts of Turkmenistan were led by Foreign Minister R. Meredov, and the participants from the UAE were led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Partnership.
The participants of the event emphasized the positive dynamics of intensifying the relationship between the two countries. It was noted that 2020 was the quarter century since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.
The key line in the negotiations was trade and economic partnership. Diplomats noted the significant mutual transport potential, thanks to which there is an opportunity to activate not only bilateral, but also multilateral trade. For this purpose it is planned to use not only the prospects of railways, but also sea and air transport and port infrastructure.
The conversation between the two sides also touched on the topic of countering the pandemic with joint efforts, as well as jointly overcoming its global socio-economic consequences.
The ministers also discussed preparations for the "EXPO-2020", which was to be held in Dubai. However, due to the difficult epidemic situation, the event was postponed until 2021. The sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, during which the Turkmen side noted its readiness to participate in the implementation of other energy projects.
Among the relevant topics for discussion at this meeting were alternative energy sources, the development of innovation and green economy. It was noted that Turkmenistan is interested in developing a partnership within IRENA, relating to renewable energy sources. In addition, programs of cultural and humanitarian nature were considered.
At the end, the diplomats noted the success of the third meeting of the Joint Committee and signed the Protocol on the results of the negotiations.
