Turkmenistan and Great Britain discuss partnership prospects

Representatives of foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Great Britain discussed prospects for further bilateral partnership by telephone. The Turkmen side was represented by Foreign Minister Robert Meredov and the British side by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and Minister for European Neighborhood and America W. Morton.

Participants of the talks reviewed in depth the current vectors of cooperation that are of interest to both countries. They noted the important role of regular consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom, which contribute to further expansion of the Turkmen-British dialogue.

The trade and economic sphere was also discussed separately. The activities of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council play a significant role in developing this area of bilateral partnership. So far, seven meetings have been held. The issues concerning trade and economic partnership in various spheres were discussed at the meetings. The sides also discussed prospects for strengthening business relations.

Representatives of the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom confirmed their intention to continue cooperation within international organizations, primarily the United Nations. In addition, they considered the possibility of a Turkmen-British partnership in the field of environmental protection and combating climate change.

A separate topic of the talks was mutual cooperation at the international level on the issue of counteracting the spread of the pandemic coronavirus. The diplomats emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to address this issue and engaging the mechanisms of science diplomacy to this end.
