Candidates from the Balkan and Lebap velayats will run in Turkmenistan's presidential elections

Candidates from Balkan and Lebap velayats whose candidacies were put forward following a meeting of initiative groups from these regions will run for the presidential elections in Turkmenistan. Economist Perhat Begenjov and doctor Berdymammet Gurbanov will be able to compete for the highest state post if each of them manages to collect ten thousand signatures of voters (Article 46 of the Electoral Code). Only then they will be included in the CEC lists of candidates for President.

Berdymammet Gurbanov currently serves as chief doctor of the Avaza sanatorium, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. He is also a member of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. According to the submitted curriculum vitae, this candidate received higher medical education at the State Medical Institute, as well as an internship. He began his career as a family doctor and then held a number of senior positions in medical institutions of Balkan velayat. For 7 years, until 2019, he worked as deputy head of the provincial health department. Several candidates were nominated by initiative groups, but the majority of votes chose B. Gurbanov. The reason was not only his long work experience, but also his high moral-personal and organizational qualities.

Perhat Begenjov currently works as the director of the financial and economic secondary vocational school and is also a member of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan. He originally taught at the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, where he previously received a higher education. He has been in his current position for eight years. He has a reputation as a broad-minded, proactive and energetic young leader.
