Avaza, August 5 - Arzuw.news. The Parliamentary Forum within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries has ended in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza". This is reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Office of the UN High Representative in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The main objective of the forum was to facilitate the exchange of experience among parliamentarians and to develop recommendations for the legislative bodies of landlocked developing countries on the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Decade.
The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan noted the unanimous adoption of the resolution on holding the Third UN Conference at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. She also recalled that on Turkmenistan's initiative 2025 was declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust".
UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima emphasized the importance of adopting the Awazi Agenda for Action as a plan to transform the challenges of landlocked developing countries into a driver for sustainable development. UN General Assembly President Philemon Young noted the key role of parliaments in implementing the priorities of the new Program of Action.
The forum included thematic sessions on the transition from the Vienna Program of Action to the Awazi Program of Action, shaping the multilateral trading system and building peace and confidence. Participants discussed digital trade, the role of parliaments in WTO compliance and the development of the digital economy in landlocked developing countries.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva noted the significance of the regional Interparliamentary Forum established in 2023 on the initiative of the heads of Central Asian states.
At the end of the work, a Parliamentary Appeal to the Third UN Conference was presented calling for technical and financial support to parliaments of landlocked developing countries. Participants emphasized the importance of further cooperation to strengthen the role of parliamentarians in the implementation of national and international development programs.
