On May 2, 2023, a reception dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Turkish diplomacy was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Turkmenistan.
Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey was officially established in 1920, Turkish diplomacy has a very rich and long history. It dates back to 1523, when the Ottoman Empire established the post of Reis ul-Küttab, which was analogous to the post of modern foreign minister.
Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey comprises 214 missions around the world. 123 of them are Turkish Embassies, 11 are Permanent Missions and 80 are Consulates General. The number of diplomatic staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey is currently close to two thousand in Turkey and in foreign countries.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry continues its efforts to promote international political, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations through bilateral and multilateral platforms and contributes to peace, stability and prosperity in the world.
