On November 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted First meeting of the National Commission for UNESCOThe membership of which was approved by the head of Turkmenistan on October 23. Turkmenistan interacts with UNESCO in education and science, culture and communications. A special place in the cooperation is occupied by protection of the cultural and natural heritage of our country.
Thanks to their joint efforts, "Ancient Merv", the monuments of Kunyaurgench, and the fortresses of Nisa are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. "Gerogly", "Kushtdepdi", Turkmen carpet weaving are included in the Representative List of the ICH of Humanity. The work in this direction continues.
During the meeting, members of the National Commission discussed the submitted draft Plan of Cooperation for 2021-2023.
Among the promising topics:
- Ashgabat's accession to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network;
- Inclusion in the ICH List: the craft of making and playing the dutar, the art of bakhshi, the tradition of seiying Akhalteke and breeding Turkmen alabais;
- intensification of work to improve the legal framework in science, education, and culture.
