Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov opened a spring tree-planting event. The event was timed to coincide with the International Novruz holiday, which symbolizes spring renewal, commitment to national traditions, in particular care for the surrounding world and native land.
Representatives of the parliament and government, as well as heads of higher education institutions, heads of the city administration of Ashgabat and the administration of the Akhal velayat and journalists gathered in the Novruz valley, which is located in the suburbs of Ashgabat, to participate in the greening campaign. Members of public organizations, elders and young people also came to support the initiative of the Head of State.
The President of the country planted the first tree of juniper, a type of mountain juniper, as part of the ongoing campaign. The example of the leader of the nation was supported by the gathered participants, as well as by Turkmen people all over Turkmenistan. A total of 1,604,200 new trees were planted thanks to their efforts, and care was given to the plants planted earlier. A total of 10 million trees are planned to be planted throughout Turkmenistan by the President's decision for 2020.
