More than 1.5 thousand people received citizenship of Turkmenistan

1,530 people received Turkmen citizenship. President Serdar Berdymukhamedov signed the decree awarding citizenship at a regular government meeting today, Turkmen television's "Watan" news program reported.

The report notes that the received citizenship people are representatives of 26 nationalities and ethnic groups.
In addition, 315 people from nine countries received residence permits.
Turkmenistan has granted citizenship to 28,000 refugees and stateless persons in recent years, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov told a government meeting.

Turkmenistan plans to eradicate statelessness on its territory by 2024.
In July 2020, Turkmenistan passed a law on universal birth registration and the prevention of child statelessness.
