Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Belarus considered prospects for partnership

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov discussed online with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makey the main directions of interstate cooperation in the coming years.

The heads of diplomatic missions focused on the main areas of Turkmen-Belarusian cooperation - cultural and humanitarian, political and diplomatic, trade and economic. They noted the important role of high-level contacts as an important tool in strengthening ties between the two countries.

The ministers discussed partnerships in various structures, both regional and international. They talked about the CIS, the UN, the OSCE, and a number of other organizations. Speaking of cooperation as CIS member states, the sides noted its effectiveness in addressing a wide range of issues. It was emphasized that on the initiative of the Turkmen leader the current year has been declared the Year of Architecture and Urban Planning in the CIS, so the activities planned for 2021 as part of this association are of no small importance.

The Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Belarus cooperate with each other fruitfully. Heads and diplomats of the foreign ministries hold meetings on a regular basis. Such events are now held online. The ministers reviewed the current state of the legal framework of relations and discussed ways to improve it.

When considering the situation in the trade and economic sphere, the parties noted the important role of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Partnership. They also emphasized the importance of the activities of trading houses of both states, which is aimed at increasing the volume and diversity of the range of products produced in Turkmenistan and Belarus in each other's markets.

The heads of the foreign ministries also paid attention to the cultural and humanitarian interaction. The sides focused in particular on education, noting that Turkmen students continue to receive higher education in Belarusian universities. The Foreign Ministers also touched upon medicine, science and creativity.

The online meeting resulted in the signing of a program defining the key areas of cooperation between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Belarus for 2021-2022.
