UN Conference on LLDCs discussed transport infrastructure

The Third United Nations Conference on LLDCs continued in plenary sessions

Avaza, August 7 - Arzuw.news. The work of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries continued yesterday in the format of plenary sessions. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The main theme of the second day was how to overcome obstacles to the socio-economic development of landlocked countries due to their isolation from world markets. Representatives of participating States made presentations on national priorities and positions to address the pressing challenges of this category of developing countries.

Conference participants stressed the importance of modernizing transport infrastructure, including ports, with mandatory consideration of environmental well-being. The need to consolidate efforts at the global and regional levels in the field of transport in connection with the transition to the new 10-year program was noted.

Delegates reaffirmed the importance of the Awazi Action Agenda and the readiness of countries to support its practical implementation. The program for the next ten years includes measures at the national level, the development of regional partnerships and a global strategy for sustainable development.

Participants also emphasized the importance of attracting investment in various segments of the economies of landlocked developing countries, including logistics, infrastructure and freedom of transit. The Avaza Programme is intended to be a future-oriented road map for transforming vulnerabilities into opportunities for the people of landlocked countries.
