FAO scientific and practical lecture series held in Turkmenistan

A delegation of scientists representing the United Nations Agriculture and Food Organization (FAO) paid a week-long visit to Turkmenistan. The delegation also included employees of major Turkish research centers. This is reported by the Internet edition "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age."

Specialists conducted a series of scientific and practical lectures on prevention and quarantine methods against wheat rust, including methods to combat the new dangerous variety of Ug-99 disease. This plant disease has not been detected in Turkmenistan.

The Plan on wheat rust control and contingency plan in Turkmenistan were submitted for consideration by the experts. The document provides for monitoring and timely treatment of fields. There were 20 presentations on development of the national strategy and action plan on prevention and control of wheat rust.

Visits were made to the building of the capital's AIC of Turkmenistan, where meetings were held with staff of research institutes, agrarian universities and FAO structures.
