Pakistan has expressed its deep appreciation to Turkmenistan for the humanitarian assistance provided to the country in response to the natural disaster. The leadership's message to President Serdar Berdymukhamedov is published in today's issue of the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan.
The message notes that the relationship between the two peoples has deep historical and cultural roots of many centuries. The assistance provided by Turkmenistan is of great importance in this difficult time. The President of Turkmenistan is wished strong health and great success, and to the fraternal Turkmen people - further progress and prosperity.
As a result of Pakistan's abnormal rainy season since the beginning of summer, one-third of the country has already gone under water.
The disaster damaged 33 million people, destroying 1.6 million homes, and the total damage is already estimated at $10 billion. To date, 1,325 people have died, including 458 children, and 12,000 have been injured. Many residents go to hospitals because of problems caused by unsanitary conditions such as poisoning and malaria.
Recall that on September 2, President Serdar Berdymukhamedov ordered that humanitarian aid to support flood victims.
A humanitarian shipment of medicine, medical supplies, goods and food arrived in Pakistan on Sept. 5.
