The President of Turkmenistan urged the UN to cooperate on the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea

Avaza, August 5 - Arzuw.news. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in the Turkmen resort town of Avaza on Tuesday. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the Information Center Business Turkmenistan.

The head of state urged to intensify international cooperation on two key environmental initiatives of Turkmenistan - the Caspian Environmental Platform and development of a specialized UN program on the Aral Sea.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the global nature of the Caspian Sea problems, including its shoaling, noting the need for coordinated international efforts to address them. The President recalled the Caspian Environment Initiative presented by Turkmenistan at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly and called for the development of this platform for international environmental dialog.

The Turkmen leader reaffirmed the country's unchanged position on the Aral Sea preservation and advocated the establishment of a specialized UN program for the Aral Sea basin. According to him, rational use of water resources remains an important part of the global agenda, and equal access to water is a fundamental human right.

President Berdimuhamedov also recalled that 2025 was declared the International Year of Peace and Confidence at the proposal of Turkmenistan, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the recognition of the country's neutrality by the international community.

The LLDC3 conference brought together world leaders to discuss the challenges facing landlocked developing countries, positioning Turkmenistan as a key player in regional integration.
