At Friday's meeting with the President, the head of the Foreign Ministry R. Meredov reported on the work to expand cooperation with the WTO. In particular, on the results of the Government Commission, created on July 15 last year to implement measures to join the WTO.
On May 4, a regular meeting of the Commission was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss a specific plan for building relations with the WTO, taking into account the recommendations of the Leader of the Turkmen Nation. The meeting resulted in fixing of the first step of Turkmenistan's accession - obtainment of the observer status. This event will stimulate development of market relations, expansion of export operations and increase in the investment attractiveness of the country.
The meeting also considered the 2019 report on the results of the Government Commission and the final version of the Review on the Foreign Trade Regime and Economic Policy of the country.
The WTO currently has 164 member states, with 24 countries joining as observers. Thanks to this global structure, trade cooperation between countries is coordinated through the development of international rules.
