Ashgabat will host the first summit of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan

The presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will meet August 4 in Ashgabat for the first summit of the three Central Asian countries in a new format. This is reported by the publication Orient. The aim of the summit is to deepen cooperation and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the three countries have strategic partnership documents and are preparing new multilateral agreements on various areas of cooperation. Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Tajikistan's Sirojiddin Mukhriddin and Uzbekistan's Bakhtiyor Saidov July 26 spent consultations via video link, during which they discussed the draft program, agenda and outcome document of the Summit.

The summit is scheduled to address priority aspects of regional cooperation such as trade, transport, energy, water resources, security and cultural exchange. The leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The summit is seen as a sign of growing dialog and integration among Central Asian countries that share a common history, culture, and interests. Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are participants in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program, which aims to expand connectivity and economic development in the region.

Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are also engaged in regional efforts to address the situation in Afghanistan. The three countries have expressed their support for an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan that preserves its sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity.
