Turkmenistan's new ambassador, Mekan Ishangulyev, has been accredited to the Republic of Turkey. The diplomat presented his credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.
Erdoğan congratulated the Ambassador of Turkmenistan on his appointment to a responsible position and wished him success in his future diplomatic activities.
Turkmenistan and Turkey established bilateral relations on February 29, 1992. Turkey was the first to recognize the independence of Turkmenistan и opened its embassy in Ashgabat. Mekan Ishangulyev was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Turkey in early July. Before his appointment to this post, he represented the interests of Turkmenistan as ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
