India wraps up G20 presidency in favor of inclusiveness and multilateral cooperation

New Delhi, September 7, 2023: Wrapping up its G20 presidency, India has catalyzed major changes in people's minds, promoting greater participation in the global economy.

Guided by the theme of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family), India promoted a people-centered approach to economic progress. Moving away from an overemphasis on GDP growth, India emphasized the importance of supply chain sustainability and enhanced multilateral cooperation.

Under the Indian Chairmanship, more than 200 meetings were held in 60 Indian cities, attended by some 100,000 delegates from 125 countries. Progress was made on key global issues such as sustainable development, climate change, clean energy, food and health security, access to technology, women's empowerment and access to financial services.

India achieved greater representation by voicing the concerns of the Global South. It also paved the way for the African Union's inclusion in the G20.

In bridging differences, India has emphasized unity over divisions and on making global governance structures more inclusive. The Chair has succeeded in bridging opposing viewpoints through consistent diplomacy on contentious issues.

As the G20 Leaders' Summit begins in New Delhi, India's year of global leadership has shown that multilateralism must be inclusive and responsive to the diversity of the world. India has emerged as a consensus builder, shaping worldviews and promoting progressive reforms at the world's highest table.
